How to install RStudio and R 4.3.1 on a Chromebook


Today we are looking at how to install RStudio and R 4.3.1 on a Chromebook.  Please follow the video/audio guide as a tutorial where we explain the process step by step and use the commands below.

This tutorial will only work on Chromebooks with an Intel or AMD CPU (with Linux Apps Support) and not those with an ARM64 architecture CPU.

Commands Used:
1) echo "deb https://deb.debian.org/debian sid main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sid_chrome_os_made_simple.list
2) sudo apt update
3) sudo apt install r-base libnss3
4) wget https://mirror.sit.fraunhofer.de/ubuntu/pool/main/o/openssl1.0/libssl1.0.0_1.0.2n-1ubuntu5.12_amd64.deb
5) sudo dpkg -i libssl1.0.0_1.0.2n-1ubuntu5.12_amd64.deb
6) sudo apt -f install
7) wget https://download1.rstudio.org/electron/focal/amd64/rstudio-2023.09.1-494-amd64.deb
8) sudo dpkg -i rstudio-2023.09.1-494-amd64.deb
9) sudo apt -f install
10) sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sid_chrome_os_made_simple.list
11) sudo apt update
